Nearly every girl wonders at least once what it will be like to have the man of her dreams drop to one knee and ask her to marry him.   There is that glorious moment with the little blue box and the diamond ring that nearly blinds you with its brilliance, right?  Or maybe it really didn’t happen that way at all.  It usually doesn’t.  But the fact is, YOU’RE ENGAGED!  Congratulations and Enjoy It! 

Engagements are a unique time.  We really don’t give engagements enough credit, but this is a massive milestone in your life.  You are making life altering decisions.  You are learning to call someone “my fiancé.”  You are showing off your new engagement ring without being a show off.  You are starting to talk about “our” budget, “our” wedding, “our” future.   This is a HUGE time in your life.   

So what are you doing to capture it so you can look back and remember just how amazing it was to start out together?  Many couples overlook this opportunity and run right into the wedding portraits.  But listen - your engagement portraits should be creative and beautiful art pieces for your home.  Sure, you need a classic one for the newspaper, but the rest of the images can be an exciting shoot where you get to have fun and get used to being in front of the camera together. 

FYI:  For several of our wedding couples, breaking the photographic ice with engagement photos really helped to make the wedding portraits amazing.  The engagement shoot took care of that awkward, stunned, deer in the headlights look and replaced it with a nice, comfortable warm smile.
